So the explanation for extreme nuts from the left and right continually rising to power is that those of us somewhere in the middle do not get passionate enough to be considered a powerful voting block. The left and right decide who will best defend their side of what they see as black and white (not referring to race here) issues and then hope we will side with their guy/gal being closer to the middle that we independent thinkers will swing. We have the TEA PARTY on the right. We have the OWC hippies on the left. I think it is time we had a strong represented movement from the middle called CSP, or the COMMON SENSE PARTY. Common sense tells us we need to fix the economy. Common sense tells us we need to fix education. Common sense tells us we need to have freedom for ALL. Common sense tells us we need to fix Lobby Money and Super Pac influence over politicians. Common sense tells us we no longer want to hear two sides of an argument spin the facts into lies both sides can use to get elected. So join the Common Sense Party and promote true equality. NOT Communism. Just SANS BS. [...]

COPY OF REPORT from Speech teacher at Queens School to Principal regarding our first day of classes last Friday!!! “OMG it was awesome! Truly one of the best activities I’ve ever seen take place here at Summit! We gave them a very large group of kids to work with, and they handled them wonderfully. The way that they related to the kids was terrific, and the activities they led worked on so many pragmatic language skills in SUCH an effective way, including increasing the kids’ awareness of their bodies in space, body proximity, eye contact, voice, and generally how others perceive them from their non-verbal cues. They also did word association and one-word stories that involved verbal expression and required kids to follow a story line. Almost all of the kids looked like they were having a fantastic time, and it was an activity where the shy kids could get to interact with others in a very structured (hence comfortable) way. At the end I spoke to the three members of the improv group and raved about how great they were and told them the specific ways that the activities helped our students. They asked me a number of questions, [...]

Doing some paperwork for CHFF Laugh It Out program, I think of why we keep up an activity doing Improv. Beyond the typical reasons given by Improv teachers and directors. When you direct a scripted work, one of the first things a director and actors works out is the business of a scene. We have words from the author, but we must develop a scene from the words. Beyond simple blocking, we develop activities and possibly fidgety actions for our characters. Than a prop master, costumer and scene designer come in and help create our world. Once we are in dress rehearsals with all of the pieces in place we refine the business. The most boring performance just involve two actors talking without movement. The best writer, directors and performers can find a way to make this work on some level but it will never be exciting. In Improv we have nothing to start. It is up to us to work together to create the business during the scene. To often we worry about being funny or thinking of what to say. All the time keeping an activity will do all the work for us. Create your characters, and a [...]

Back in the 1960s Russian and other former leaders thought Kennedy was week. He was a US Media darling but when push came to shove would he be a strong leader? TV and Internet has changed what many in the US consider Presidential. Mistresses and underhanded practice is more transparent. It is easier than ever to call out the BS. Many people prefer news that resembles TMZ over Walter Cronkite. Too often NEWS is entertainment not journalism. Sound bytes trump actual facts. Journalist think themselves more important than the story. So called experts are mostly staff from failed campaigns. And too often the public follows the narrow field of information presented by a few instead of watching entire debates or reading a full story of facts. Last Thursday, say what you want about Newt Gingrich, but he is saying all the things – right or wrong – the right way. When Gingrich was asked about comments form ex-wife by John King, Newt burried John King. And you can tell by John Kings defensive response, Newt put Mr. King on his heels. At the debate, John King looked like a teenager that was scolded. On his following TV appearance, he seemed [...]
